Colombia: Juan Fernando Quintero
Position: Attacking Midfielder
Club: FC Porto
Juan Quintero is another star to watch at this year's World Cup. He has been compared to Lionel Messi and Diego Maradona, as he is said to possess superb dribbling, agility, balance, and speed similar to these world class Argentinian forwards. Moreover, the midfielder is recognised for his playmaking ability, can play in all attacking positions behind the striker, and is a threat when taking his free-kicks and set-piece deliveries. Scary stuff. In his last tournament, in 2013, the young Colombian won the South American Youth Championship MVP award and scored the best goal of the tournament along the way. After watching the 21-year-old at the South American Championship, former Swiss International Kubilay Turkyilmaz stated that Quintero "could go on to become on par with Messi."
Greece: Kostas Manolas
After a wonderful season under his belt for Olympiakos, Kostas Manolas was included in the Greek World Cup squad. The 22-year-old was chosen for the Greek provisional squad in the 2010 tournament but was not included in the last 23. Manolas has been impressive for the Reds this season, scoring five goals as a centre-back. The young defender almost joined Everton in 2012, but stayed with AEK before moving to Olympiakos. He has recently been linked with a transfer to Manchester United and Juventus.
Cote D’Ivoire: Serge Aurier
Club: FC Toulouse
Named in the 2013/14 Ligue 1 team of the season and nominated as one of the best young players in France, Serge Aurier has had a magnificent campaign for Toulouse. Starting his career as a defensive midfielder, the young Ivorian now plies his trade as a prolific right-back, scoring six goals this season, finishing as the third highest goal-scorer for his team. The 21-year-old, nicknamed 'the bison' at his former club Lens for his sheer strength and athleticism, has been touted as the replacement for Arsenal's Bacary Sagna, after the 31-year-old announced his departure from the Gunners.
Japan: Hotaru Yamaguchi
Position: Defensive/Attacking Midfielder
Club: Cerezo Osaka
Yamaguchi was called up to the Japanese national side for the first time in 2013, playing all three matches in the 2013 EAFF East Asian Cup and named the most valuable player of the tournament. For the 23-year-old, it was a dream debut. In terms of his position, the midfielder operates in either defensive or attacking midfield. In terms of statistics, he scored seven goals and made four assists for Osaka last season. In terms of aesthetics, he has fluorescent yellow hair.
